This time of year the fishing gets real spotty. When the weather cooperates the fish are there and catchable but the weather is the big IF. Then of course there is always that fact that most of us can only fish on certain days of the week due to our jobs and other commitments so the times when things line up get real slim.
So while the fishing is slow, I turn to getting ready for Spring and early summer fishing. The first big run of fish for me in the Spring is usually Bonito. They are fun to catch and are tasty too. They usually arrive here in early to mid April and stay through most of May.
I stock up on lures like Maria Jigs and Yo-zuri Deep divers. I also sharpen the hooks on all my gear and change the line on my reels with mono (most of my reels except the trolling models now have braid on them). I'll make up some bucktails and this year I going to try making a lure I read about in Saltwater Sportsman, the "Poveromo Peanut". here's the link to the article:
